What is a Social Equity Program?
The legal cannabis industry is thriving but diversity still remains an issue. Vibe’s social equity program is a recruitment and retention strategy for communities of color, women, and other minorities who faced long-troubled history of inequality. This program helps people who have been disadvantaged by the effects of institutionalized racism, sexism, homophobia, and other forms of bias.
Why Vibe’s Social Equity Program?
From a single dispensary in Sacramento to the fastest growing cannabis company in the state, Vibe puts community and quality first and foremost. Vibe’s Social Equity program provides those who have been disproportionately harmed by cannabis prohibition. This includes communities that have suffered from high rates of arrest and incarceration for marijuana possession or sale, as well as those whose members are disproportionately burdened by the collateral consequences of a conviction.
Vibe’s internships provide an opportunity for those who are interested in entering the industry to learn about the business from those who have been there. The mentorship aspect of this internship provides an opportunity for those with experience to share their knowledge with those who are new to the industry. Social equity ensures that marginalized communities can participate and benefit from the legalization of cannabis. Cannabis and other drug related charges disproportionately affect these communities, and this program seeks to address the inequities in the cannabis industry by giving low-income communities and minorities access to economic opportunities.

Who Qualifies for Social Equity Programs?
In the state of California, local city government entity responsible for licensing cannabis dispensaries designs its social equity program and the criteria for applicant’s qualifications. Anyone is allowed to participate if they follow within the two of the following conditions:
- If they categorize as low income.
- If they were arrested or convicted due to cannabis prohibition in the past.
- If they live in the newly defined disproportionately impacted areas.
Vibe is less interested in fulfilling the requirements but more interested in hearing your story and background to see how well you can fit in its social equity program.
